The Problem
How can we help educate people about the Trap Neuter & Return (TNR) program and fostering cats?
What I aimed to help solve was to inform people about the TNR program and fostering/adopting cats from the shelter in a way that caters to the Gen X audience. This topic was chosen by someone in that category whom I then interviewed about what social cause they felt was their strongest interest.
Research
What information is out there regarding this topic? What are people saying?
The interviewee, Monica, and I had discussed why they were interested in helping cats. Answers included that from a young age she witnessed her mother (who was a doctor) save animals from the street, and was inspired to save animals as well. General questions about what volunteering meant for her were also asked. “You want to do it because it makes you happy.”, was her response. Based off sources such as Alley Cat Allies, people may not know enough about the TNR program.

Results
How did the outcome help solve the problem?

The website would help create an interesting way to learn about the TNR program and fostering/adopting cats from shelters and foster homes. Being interactive and using vibrant colors (color choice was inspired by Monica's preference in visuals) helps grab and keep the user's attention for learning useful information. Added to the hifi prototype were images and information directly from actual cat rescue businesses such as Constellation Cat Cafe that could help inform users like Monica about saving cats.

Summary
Moving Forward
This website could be expanded further for mobile website development. It also could be furthered by collaborating with shelters and foster homes for their input. More research and interviews could also be integrated for user feedback.
